Terminology used in Chandlery
To help you understand some of the terminology used in Chandlery (candle making) I have put together the following list:
Cold Throw -CT
Used to describe the strength of a fragrance before the candle has been burned.
Hot Throw – HT
Used to describe the strength of a fragrance while the candle is burning.
Frosting
White crystalline structure that forms on the surface of natural waxes, also known as bloom.
Hang up (Tunnelling)
Unburned wax that remains on the wall of the container.
Melt Pool
The liquid layer of wax that forms as the candle burns.
Mushrooming
Seen at the top of the wick, a small amount of carbon caused by incomplete combustion.
